The applied film should be removed after one day at the earliest and after five days at the latest. It is normal to find small amounts of blood and wound fluid under the film. Don't worry if after a short time it looks like something has leaked.

If the foil starts to come off and your tattoo is no longer fully protected, you can carefully peel it off under lukewarm water. If you feel like you can't tolerate the film, you can also remove it.

When wiping, you should always use a fresh, clean towel or paper towel.

After removing the foil, the tattoo should be regularly treated with a suitable cream. You can either use wound and healing ointments from the pharmacy or special tattoo care creams. Be sure to apply the cream in a thin layer to strike a balance between overly dry skin and the risk of softening. Repeat this process about 2-4 times daily.

If a crust forms, you should not scrape it off! It is better to continue applying cream to the tattoo regularly until the crust falls off on its own.

The further healing process can take between 14 days and a month, depending on the individual skin conditions.

During this phase the following aspects should be taken into account:

  • The tattoo requires oxygen to heal properly. It's best to wear loose-fitting, breathable clothing.

  • It is normal for the tattoo to itch occasionally during the healing period. However, scratching should be avoided at all costs as this can lead to scarring.

  • Avoid friction and irritation by avoiding hard clothing, scratchy fabrics, shaving, scrubs, etc. (e.g. denim, scratchy sweaters and coarse towels for drying).

  • Avoid swimming pools due to the chlorine content in the water and avoid saunas.

  • Sports activities can put undue stress on the tattoo due to the exertion, sweating, and added friction. Therefore, wait until the tattoo is completely healed.

  • Do not use scented creams on healing skin areas. Initially only clean the tattoo with a pH-neutral and skin-friendly soap. Don't use self-tanner.

  • If the tattoo was done on the neck, head, or armpit area, be careful not to accidentally spray deodorants, hairsprays, or dry shampoos on it.

  • Avoid direct sunlight, be it natural sun or artificial light like those used in tanning beds. After the tattoo has completely healed, it is advisable to protect it with sunscreen.
